IPCH Celebrates the Inauguration of the Port of Chancay: A Milestone for International Trade

The Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal, one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in South America, has been officially inaugurated during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. Under the theme “From Chancay to Shanghai”, this megaport is set to revolutionize trade between Peru and Asia, establishing the country as a strategic hub for global commerce.

A Historic Inauguration: The opening ceremony was attended by Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Minister of Transport and Communications Raúl Pérez Reyes. During the event, leaders highlighted the port’s significance for Peru’s economic growth and its role in modernizing national logistics infrastructure.

A World-Class Infrastructure Developed with an investment exceeding $1.4 billion, the Port of Chancay features:

• Four berths totaling 1,500 meters in length

• 27 specialized cranes and 40 autonomous vehicles

• A depth of 17.8 meters, allowing the world’s largest vessels to dock fully loaded

• 5G technology to optimize operations, ensuring high levels of efficiency and security

With operations now underway, shipping times to Asia are expected to decrease by 10 days, from 35 to 25 days, boosting the competitiveness of Peruvian exports. Additionally, the port is projected to contribute $4.5 billion annually to GDP (1.8% growth) and generate over 7,000 direct and indirect jobs.

IPCH’s Role in This Major Project As a key partner with 40% ownership of the project, IPCH has worked alongside Cosco Shipping to bring this vision to life. This megaproject will transform Peru’s logistics and foreign trade, reinforcing the country’s position as a leading logistics hub in the South Pacific.

The inauguration of the Port of Chancay marks a crucial step in modernizing Peru’s port infrastructure and showcases its potential as a key trade gateway between South America and Asia.
